How to lighten your foundation using foundation mixers

The times I bought a foundation just to bring it home and then discover it was too dark for me….too many. Not only is it difficult to find the correct undertone, the shades can be confusing to. You bring a foundation home. You put it on your face in a badly lit bathroom. Then come outside, sit in the car, look in the mirror. THE HORROR your face is orange, ow and there are some eyebrows that need plucking. But today we are focusing on foundation.

In Slovenia it is very difficult to find a shade that would match me, or that is even close to matching me. You would think that the lightest shade would do, but no they don’t even sell the lightest shade a company makes. I often have to buy foundations online, or abroad where they have a larger shade range. What’s interesting is that in the Netherlands, where I live now, the shades available are more or less the same as in Slovenia. Whereas in the UK you can acctualy find some that are suited for us snowflakes.

If you are a foundation lover like me, you might find yourself having a huge amount of different foundations, all in the hopes of finding the one. A foundation that matches your neck, one that you can just slap on. But instead you worry about it turning orange half way through the door (I’m talking to you Urban Decay All Nighter…still upset). Or maybe you have found one that is nearly perfect, if only it was a smidge lighter. Well I have a solution for you! One day I was fed up with my pile of foundations. None were quite right so I decided to do some online research! I found a video KathleenLights made using Manic Panic foundation and color corrector in Virgin. I ordered it straight away from Amazon. Today I will show you how it works, and compare it to another foundation mixer by Nyx that I got from Feelunique

About Giogrio Armani foundation

Airports can be very dangerous-spending wise. I was at the Schiphol airport and I found Giorgio Armani makeup stand. Nice. Hearing many great things about their foundation I decided it would be a great idea to spend 50€ and just buy it. I mean I might not get an oportunety to see it live ever again! Then I had to pick between Lasting silk and Luminous silk, and because I do get oily I choose Lasting silk in shade 4. This shade was the lightest on the stand so I just assumed that was the lightest they did and I bought it. Stupid. Ofcourse it’s too dark and a bit too pink for me. So I choose the Giorgio Armani Lasting silk foundation to demonstrate the lightning effects of white foundation mixers.

The Lasting silk foundation itself is quite liquidy and both the Nyx and Manic panic lightners come out thicker, they won’t run of your hand. However once you start to blend them they feel more watery. Nyx has 6 different foundation mixers, I got mine in the shade White.

Foundation mixers performance

Both lightners are able to lighten the foundation pretty well. However they do change the consistency of it slightly, the more you add. Both whites look like they are the same color but when I mixed them with the Luminous silk I found that the Nyx mixer made the foundation more yellow, and the Manic panic was more pink (or is it all in my head). Once I put them on my face they looked exactly the same.

Below I took some pictures of my face. I only applied the foundation mixed with either Nyx (my right side) or Manic panic (my left side) here I did not use any concealer or powder. I noticed that the Nyx side was slightly easier to blend out but it also took longer to set. In fact the Nyx side stayed a tiny bit sticky before applying powder. The finish on both sides was satin, and there was no color difference.

I then did the rest of my makeup. Please don’t judge my eyebrows, I went a little crazy that day haha.

Manic panic

Both sides held up good throught out the day, I didn’t notice any difference in performance. Yesterday I tried the Nyx mixer with my Urban Decay All Nighter foundation, and it got pretty oily after 6 hrs. I did not notice that when I used Manic panic. Both mixers have a strange smell to them, but you have to get your nose all up in there to notice. I prefer the packaging from Manic panic more, as it has a pump. The Nyx one comes in a squizy tube.

Conclusion

I think this kind of product is great to have at hand to help you match your foundation perfectly. Especialy if you often have difficulty finding a foundation that is light enough. It’s still important that the foundation you get matches your undertone otherwise you’re gonna look funny, I’ve been there done that plenty of times. I can’t say I have a final favorite between these two, they both get the job done. I know Illamasqua has a white foundation too, and I’m gonna try that one next!

Let me know if you have a favorite white foundation mixer in the comments 🙂
